| The purpose of this initiative is to provide a cooperative and constructive framework for developing an understanding of the need for a broad-based private-public coalition which will carry out collaborative activities and initiatives which to advance a new economic development initiative for Puerto Rico. This initiative proposes to harness the full potential of Information-Communications Technologies (ICT) in Puerto Rico to: a) stimulate local entrepreneurship and business creation based on Information Technology; b) increase local, U.S. and foreign investment in Puerto Rico in the area of technology; c) significantly expand employment, especially in higher paying technology-related jobs; and d) expand educational opportunities through the use of technology and high technology training, to develop a highly educated and skilled workforce. The proposed initiative is geared at ensuring that Puerto Rico, over the next decade, will become competitive in the new highly technological global economy, and will decrease its dependence on the traditional economic models that has dominated the Island’s economy. | The following documents presents the framework of the proposed initiative:
